Roger Federer tennis is a name whose achievements made him rank among the best tennis professionals of all times. However, claiming his place in the top 10 was a tedious process.
Usually, it is always difficult to mark a presence in the men’s tour but the creativity and style with which he marked his name in the world’s history, was impeccable. In Key Biscayne, he upended top ranked Lleyton Hewitt and seemed unstoppable on his way to the final, where Andre Agassi cleaned his clock. Many of the tennis specialists, however, believed that Federer could be the best player ever and there believe definitely proved to be true.
In total, Federer has now won 12 Grand Slam men's singles titles in 35 appearances (making a record of 17 consecutive appearances), three Tennis Masters Cup titles, and 14 ATP Masters Series titles. Roger is nearing the record of 14 Grand Slam titles held by Pete Sampras. Novak Djokovic has just one Slam but he is one to watch in the future. He became the first man since 1988 to win three of four Grand Slam singles tournaments in the same year: the Australian Open, Wimbledon and U.S. Open, in 2004. In 2006, he became the first person to repeat this superb performance in the Open Era and also the first man in the Open Era to win ten singles tournaments in three consecutive years since 2004 to 2006.
Roger Federer is the only player to win both the Wimbledon and U.S. Open singles titles in four consecutive years. The year 2007 turned out to be miraculous for Federer. In 2007, he conquered another land to be the only man to win 3 separate Grand Slam tournaments at least three times and won his third Australian Open Title. However, the list is endless, by winning; Federer tied Bjorn Borg's open-era record of five consecutive Wimbledon championships. Moreover, he captured his 50th title in the Cincinnati Masters tournament in 2007 itself. Also, he was named Laureus World Sportsman of the Year for a record third consecutive time.

It is quite amazing to know that Roger handed his tennis raquet at the age of six. Who knew that time that this fiddling with a tennis raquet would take him to the skies of name and fame? Federer Wimbledon is now a common saying when it comes to his dominance of the Elite Grand Slam. However, its not that he didn’t tried any other sports. He was sheer at football but his first love traced him back to the fields of long tennis and his focused approach took him the long way at the age of 12. By the time he was 14; he conquered Swiss Championship for all age groups and got selected to train at Ecublens’ Swiss National Tennis Center.
He played at the ITF junior tennis circuit in July, 1996. In 1998, Federer took both the Wimbledon juniors title and Orange Bowl. The same year he was titled as the ITF World Junior Tennis champion. This year also traces his joining to the ATP tour.
The year 1999 was very auspicious for Federer as for the first time he played for the Swiss Davis Cup group and became the youngest tennis player to be ranked among the top 100 players at ATP. Federer’s first ATP victory in Milan on February 2001 proved that this player is not going to be sidelined. He also won three matches in a 3-2 Davis Cup and brought pride for his nation, defeating United States of America.
This was not all. He kept on conquering fields over fields and became a landmark for his country. In 2002 and 2003, Roger Federer made significant achievements at the Davis Cup and the Houston tournament respectively. In the Davis Cup, he won both singles matches against Marat Safin and Yevgeny Kafelnikov, former top Russian players. At the 2003 Houston tournament, he won the Tennis Masters Cup.
The year 2004 witnesses a great rise in the Roger’s career where he marked his victory in three out of the four of the Grand Slam singles tournament. He also won his first Australian Open title when he defeated Marat Safin and also grabbed the pride to be the ITF Tennis World Champion.
Laureus World Sportsman of the Year title was given to Roger Federer in the year 2005 and attacked on third Grand Slam Championship in 2006. He defeated Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus and won the Australian open an January, 2006 which waved his way to third Grand Slam Championship. However, in 2006 French Open, he lost his final match to Rafael Nadal; still his performance didn’t go unnoticed.
Roger Federer: The Personal Touch
Although Roger Federer didn’t left any stone unturned and barely missed any shot, he is a complete person in his personal life too. He was born in Basel, Switzerland, and grew up at the suburbs of Munchenstein. Being located at the borders of France and Germany, he got his attribute towards French, German and English languages, German taking the lead.
Like today’s youth he was impulsive, emotional and never left a chance to throw his tantrums on the field. Because of this attitude, he was thrown several times out of field; however, gradually he learnt to get his cool with the passage of time. He was a talented soccer player but at last decided to have a professional career in long tennis itself.
When not being a player, he is a fun loving person that loves to spend time on beaches, playing cards, skiing and golf. This happy-go-lucky chap is a diehard fan of Dubai, Maldives and Swiss mountains. Apart being a traveler his is soft at his heart. Being a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF, he has taken many foreign tours. One of the tours has been to India to help people out there after Tsunami in 2004. not only he extended his hand for help of those devastated children, rather huge amounts donation by him says it all.
Peeping to his personal life, it was revealed that currently he is dating former WTA payer Miroslava Vavrinec (Mirka) who was born in Slovakia. She has also been a tennis flayer, however, retired due to her foot injury in 2002. Currently residing in Oberwill, Federer launched a fragrance and cosmetics line called RF Cosmetics in October 2003, in association with Mirka and a Swiss associate.
